Clinical profile:
Dr Mei-Ling Cheng is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in glaucoma and cataract surgery. Her clinical practice includes medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma, including minimally invasive glaucoma procedures, alongside routine and complex cataract surgery and YAG laser capsulotomy.

She graduated with honours from Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ Medical School at King’s College London. She completed comprehensive ophthalmology specialist training in Edinburgh and subsequently undertook advanced glaucoma fellowship training, including at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre.

Dr Cheng holds substantive NHS consultant posts at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh and the Borders General Hospital in Melrose.

Education and training:
Dr Cheng is actively involved in postgraduate medical education. She serves as an Examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the University of Edinburgh and works as a Clinical Supervisor supporting the training of ophthalmology trainees and glaucoma specialists. She previously served as a trainee representative on the board of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
