Clinical profile:
Dr Laura Hughes is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon specialising in reconstructive eyelid surgery and periocular procedures. Her clinical practice focuses on functional eyelid correction, eyelid lesion removal and periocular reconstruction, with careful consideration of both functional and aesthetic outcomes.

She completed dedicated oculoplastic training in Edinburgh before undertaking subspecialty fellowships in oculoplastic surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London and at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

Dr Hughes is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a Full Member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society and the Scottish Oculoplastic Group. She has served as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh and has represented Ophthalmology training for the Royal College of Surgeons.

Her published work includes a national survey on UK ophthalmology trainee confidence in managing posterior capsular rupture and a surgical case report describing a modified tarsoconjunctival flap technique for severe scleral necrosis repair.
