Clinical profile:
Dr Meg Das is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in medical retinal disease. Her clinical practice focuses on the management of diabetic retinopathy, macular diseases and retinal vascular disorders, including retinal laser treatment and intravitreal injection therapy.
She completed her medical training overseas and undertook ophthalmology specialist training in Glasgow and Edinburgh. She subsequently completed a Medical Retina Fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion. Her NHS clinical practice is based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion and Edinburgh University Hospitals.
Education and training:
Dr Das plays an active role in postgraduate ophthalmology education. She serves as an Educational and Clinical Supervisor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, providing teaching, training and assessment for ophthalmology trainees.
She is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Edinburgh Medical School and has a particular interest in simulation-based laser training in ophthalmology. She is a Trainer and Faculty Member for the Scottish Laser Simulation Course held annually at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion. She also sits on national recruitment and selection panels for ophthalmology training and contributes to undergraduate medical student admissions and teaching.
In addition, she is involved in teaching and supporting primary care optometrists in the management of medical retinal conditions.
Service development and innovation:
Dr Das is part of the Macula and Medical Retina Service Improvement Advisory Group at NHS Lothian. She contributes to the development and appraisal of patient pathways and treatment strategies for conditions including wet age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion and diabetes-related retinopathy.
