Dr Freddie Burgess is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in adult strabismus (commonly referred to as 'squint') surgery, paediatric ophthalmology and cataract surgery. Originally from London, he undertook his ophthalmology specialist training here in Edinburgh before moving to Canada for sub-specialty fellowship training in both strabismus surgery and paediatric ophthalmology at the world-renowned Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. Dr Burgess provides a specialist service for those with strabismus or double vision, offering both surgical and non-surgical treatments (including prisms and Botox injections). He performs cataract surgery for adults, children and neonates and is highly motivated to provide the best visual outcomes for his patients.
As well as being a Consultant Ophthalmologist at both Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion and the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People, Dr Burgess holds an honorary research position with the University of St Andrews and is actively engaged in training the next generation of eye surgeons.
Dr Burgess is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, as well as a member of the British & Irish Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Association (BIPOSA) and the American Association for Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus (AAPOS).
