Clinical profile:
Dr Freddie Burgess is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in adult strabismus surgery, paediatric ophthalmology and cataract surgery. He completed ophthalmology specialist training in Edinburgh before undertaking sub-specialty fellowship training in strabismus surgery and paediatric ophthalmology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

He provides a specialist service for patients with strabismus and double vision, offering both surgical and non-surgical treatments including prism therapy and botulinum toxin injections. His clinical practice also includes cataract surgery for adults, children and neonates. He is the lead clinician for retinopathy of prematurity services in Edinburgh.

Dr Burgess holds consultant posts at both the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion and the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People. He is actively involved in training ophthalmology trainees and medical students and holds an honorary research fellowship at the University of St Andrews.

Dr Burgess holds an honorary research fellowship at the University of St Andrews and has contributed to peer-reviewed research in ophthalmology, including work in paediatric eye disease, strabismus surgery, ocular measurement studies and inherited eye conditions.
